The last aspect of combat that's getting a redesign is the finishing system. Watching the poor wretch try to pop it back into joint was almost enough to evoke a sense of pathos. We saw an arm grab that was followed by a nasty crunching sound as Ethan dislocated a bum's arm. You'll still be able to do that in the sequel, only there will be a lot more attack and defense chains for disabling your foes. In Condemned: Criminal Origins, good timing could disarm an oncoming vagrant. Monolith also hinted that you'd obtain different holsters as the game progressed, allowing you to keep better guns on your person later in the campaign. For the sequel, though, you'll be able to holster a pistol to carry with you as a backup weapon as well as reload your guns rather than dumping them every time you run out of ammo. Don't be surprised to find a brick flying towards your head when you step around a corner. Oh, and if you can do it, so can the enemies.

Bricks make a nice projectile, too, but our favorite that we saw is the fiery combination of a liquor bottle followed by a taser shot. Throw a pipe at a hobo's knees and you'll trip him up, giving the perfect opportunity to punch him in the back of the head. Rebar, conduits, axes, and scraps of metal that are found scattered around the environment can be picked up and used as weapons, but now they can be thrown too. Of course, the weapons of opportunity are still in Condemned 2. Time your swings appropriately and you can deliver combos for multiplied damage or stun your opponent with a solidly landed uppercut.ĭogs+are+not+always+man's+best+friend. Here, each fist gets its own trigger for basic punches. Without a weapon, he uses his fists with great malice. Ethan isn't exactly useless in a fight without a rebar or conduit in hand. YES NO This arena brawler sparring match did a great job showing off the more advanced combat Condemned 2 is boasting. It's easy to see how a mode like this could translate into an online game, though. SEGA wasn't ready to talk about any of the online multiplayer options promised for Condemned 2 and declined to answer whether we'd see any multiplayer side to the Hobo Fight Club. It's a bit demented and sick when you think about it, but it's also quite awesome. Any enemies you've defeated or weapons you've collected in the campaign mode will be up for grabs in this hobo arena fighter. The foes come two at a time with replacements arriving as soon as you take one down.

The longer you survive, the higher you'll be on the leaderboards.

A modern day version of the Coliseum at Rome, this mode drops you into a pit where you fight enemies until you die. It came out of a test arena Monolith created to try out the new combat system but the team had so much fun with it that they decided to add it to the game. If you liked Condemned, wait till you get a load of its sequel. Then there's Hobo Fight Club which is an entirely different beast. Significantly improved visuals, a brand new forensics system, and advanced combat are just a few of the things Monolith put work into. Recognizable, yes, but after our first look at Condemned 2 in action it's easy to see that Monolith took the criticisms leveled at the first game to heart. Running on a greatly modified version of the original engine used for Condemned, simply called the Monolith engine, Bloodshot is instantly recognizable as a sequel to the Xbox 360 launch title.
